eBay Says Easier Package Tracking is Coming Soon
.
Last August (2008), I wrote a post titled “eBay Order Details Page Leaves Buyers in the Dark” where I mentionned a very frustrating problem. I stated:
I can see from my side of the transaction (as a seller) that the item has been shipped (notice the box icon, circled below, which indicates the item has been shipped):
But the buyer can only see whether the item has been paid for and whether feedback has been left and / or received for the transaction:
The buyer currently cannot use the eBay system to determine whether a seller has shipped their package and even when sellers such as myself send buyers an email letting them know that their package is enroute, that email is often deleted, ignored, or ends up in the spam folder. But, now only 5 months, later eBay has revealed their plan to address the problem. In an announcement yesterday, eBay states:
Coming soon: Easier package tracking
Shipping status will be much easier for buyers to track right on eBay. When you print a PayPal shipping label, upload a shipping tracking number, or manually mark an item as shipped, buyers will soon be able to see items being marked “Shipped” in the “Won” section of My eBay and will also receive an email notification that their item has shipped. Look for these changes in March and make sure to start uploading your tracking information now.
I will wait until March to make my personal comments about this new feature since eBay seems to have an “unusual” way of implementing new features, thus I am not quite sure how the new feature will actually work.

Wow, surprised. We’ve had this both ways since launch.
