Are You Ready for eBay’s new Shipping Policy?

Beginning in July, all eBay sellers in the U.S. must use the Shipping Details (not just the auction description) to display their domestic shipping costs because  “knowing the exact shipping price at the time of bidding or purchase on eBay is an important driver of buyer satisfaction” according to eBay.   Exemptions from this policy apply to certain categories like Vehicles, or services such as Freight.

Shown above is an example of the shipping details of an auction that is currently listed on eBay.  The shiping and handling section states to “Check item description or contact seller for details.”

Beginning in July, the above shipping details as shown above (which does not specifically list the shipping cost in that section of the auction) will violate the new eBay Shipping Policy.

Above is an example of an auction that includes Shipping Details.  The shipping cost in the SYI form can be given as a flat-rate cost or a calculated cost which uses the eBay calculator and the information input in the SYI form then appears to the buyer in the Shipping Details section at the bottom of the auction.  The only two shippers that are specifically listed in the Shipping Details is the U.S. Post office and United Parcel Service (UPS).  Other shippers, such as FedEx or DHL, can be used but there is no provision for listing those specific shipping choices in the Shipping Details section.
