My Top 3 eBay Questions for Today – Where, What, & When?

Posted on October 21, 2008. Filed under: eBay | Tags: , , , |

Today is Tuesday October 21, 2008 and I have some eBay questions:

1. Where is the information about the Feedback Revision Policy?

It was previously announced that the new Feedback Revision Policy would be in place on the U.S. site October 20 (and for those who are calendar-impaired, that was YESTERDAY).  More information about the Feedback Revision policy can be found HERE

2. What is the new eBay Seller Strategies Team REALLY doing?

Previously, I blogged about the new eBay Seller Strategies Team (more info can be found HERE) and I included an email that I had received letting me know about the new Team.  Among other things, the email said:

“The Seller Strategies Team is focused on delving into current and emerging issues that our Top Sellers are facing and working together to discover potential solutions and offer actionable suggestions on that particular issue. “

So, what is the Strategies Team REALLY calling sellers about?  They are calling to give sellers Tips on How to Improve their Shipping DSRs.  Really?  So that is the big “Seller Strategies Team” news?  Here are the tips eBay gives (copied from the eBay website):

Tips to help improve your detailed seller ratings

  • Accurately describe your item, and include whether it is new or used, and honor your selling terms.

  • Don’t describe reconditioned or refurbished items as “new.” When buyers see the word “new,” they expect new, not “like new.”

  • Set clear expectations for shipping time up front in the Item Description. If you do not ship on weekends, state that in your description.

  • Promptly and clearly communicate – respond to emails from your buyer and proactively provide order status updates as needed.

  • When a problem arises, don’t assign blame. Work with your buyer to resolve the problem quickly and professionally.

Hmmmm….. Now, compare the “tips” above to the tips that I gave back in May 2008: DSR Tips from someone who is actually a USER of the eBay system.

3. When when when will the eBay glitches stop?

The number of eBay glitches are so out of hand.  And, now, the new Fixed Price (FP30) brings its own unique set of glitches.  (a) Bulk relisting is impossible to do with FP30 because the quantities relisted will not agree to the quantities available at the time the listing ended, (b) relisting some FP30 items results in missing pictures hours AFTER the item has been correctly relisted and, even worse, (c) results in some quantities mysteriously increasing AFTER the item has been relisted.  (d) Sending listings from the eBay store to fixed price in bulk is limited to items with 30 or less in the quantity; for any listing with items with greater than 30, the quantity sent to fixed price is only available in even units of 10.  So, for an item that has a quantity of 42 in the listing, only 40 can be sent to fixed price in bulk with 2 remaining in the store.

eBay 2008 often reminds me of a Mystery…. Where, What, When.  I love a good mystery but only when I can follow the plot.  For me, I don’t have a clue HOW eBay is going to muddle through the rest of 2008, much less WHO will be in charge in 2009.
