ProPay Integregation is Complete & eBay Invoicing Allows Sellers to Accept Check / Money Order

Posted on October 31, 2008. Filed under: eBay | Tags: , , , |

Previously I blogged that eBay removed the check / money order option from the SYI (Sell-Your-Item) listing form so sellers are not able to choose check / money order as a payment option.  Click HERE for that complete article.

Today, eBay announced that the site changes to support the new Paperless Payments Policy are now in place.  Although eBay did not specifically state it, ProPay is now integrated with the eBay checkout.

What is really interesting, though, is that sellers can now inform buyers at the time of invoicing that they will accept check / money order.   I wonder if that functionality will go away after December, when the new Paperless Payments policy will begin being enforced.  At least for now, sellers can still inform buyers that they accept payments in the mail albeit after he fact (after the item has already been purchased).  Note that the seller now cannot not use the SYI form to let the buyer know in advance that payments by mail are accepted but they can make that payment option known to the buyer at the time the invoice is sent.

I WOULD BE VERY WARY OF ACCEPTING A PAPER PAYMENT AS THIS COULD BE EBAY’S WAY OF SUSPENDING SELLERS AND BLAME IT ON A TECH GLITCH….

THEY HAVE DONE STUFF LIKE THIS BEFORE.

WHAT A BACK DOOR WAY OF SCREWING SELLERS.

That is one well draw star, there. 😉

Well, I am soooo glad that SOMEBODY likes my artwork!

I believe one of eBay’s FAQ’s regarding online payments SPECIFICALLY states that due to the holiday season, eBay will NOT enforce the paper payments ban in listing descriptions until early Jan 2009, ie you can STILL state in the DESCRIPTION that you will accept Checks / MOs, that is probably why eBay still shows those options on the invoice.

Thanks for the update. I do see we can revise our listings to accept ProPay now. Since we have Immediate Payment Required for some items, we’ll have to remove that as a policy in order for ProPay to work.

Have the eBay tools caught up for bulk revisions? I wonder if SM PRO can do this in bulk yet…?

[…] this week.  Ina at AuctionBytes covered the service a week or two back, and others (AuctionBytes, BrewsNews, ) have been discussing the card reader this […]

When we contacted e-bay about the “paperless” we were told that we will always be able to accept money orders or checks, IF the buyer asks us first. Working in Native America we have many people on the PowWow Highway. They do not have access to their Indian Nation banks while on the road, but do have access to postal money orders.

Thanks for this information. Will go check out ProPay now.
