New eBay Survey Asks Sellers About Everything but the Kitchen Sink

This past week I received a survey from eBay that was sent to each of my three selling IDs.  The survey was the most lengthy survey yet that I have received from eBay and the questions covered a wide variety of topics from sales channels to feedback to the Top Rated seller program to selling tools like Turbo Lister.  Some of the things I noticed from the survey: 

1. eBay asked about alternate sales channels, as they often do, but unlike last time, there was no choice for a seller to say that they are currently using or have used Bonanzle.  This survey also did not mention by name either Overstock or Etsy as has also been done in the past.  Instead, the choices were:

eBay, Yahoo Shopping, Half.com, Amazon, Google Base, Craigslist, Own website, Retail store, or other.

2. eBay asked several detailed questions about satisfaction.  The satisfaction questions were broken down into the following categories: Selling in General (time and effort it takes to sell on eBay, the feedback system, the frequency of changes), Listing items (editing and revising listings, the easing of listing items), Managing Communication (the time and effort it takes to answer questions from buyers, the volume of questions), Packaging and Shipping (the ease of providing shipment tracking information to buyers, packaging and shipping items to buyers), Managing my Business and Selling on eBay (the price my items sell for, the ease of selling items locally, the speed of which items sell on eBay), and Problem Resolution & Returns (the customer service provided by eBay when something goes wrong with the transaction, the time and effort it takes to process and accept returns on eBay).

After asking eBay sellers about their level of satisfaction for the six main areas, the survey then went through the same categories a second time and asked about the importance of each.  Specifically the question was “When selling on eBay, how important is each of the following to your success as a seller on eBay?”

 

3.  The survey asked about third party features such as Blackthorne, the Seller Dashboard, eBay Stores, eBay Sales Reports, Turbolister and eBay Selling Manager.

Next the survey asked about the use of third party service providers like Auctiva, ChannelAdvisor, Terapeak and Vendio.

4. The survey asked a whole series of questions about Best Match.

5. There were questions about the new eBay Top Rated Seller Program such as whether a seller thinks the Top Rated Seller program is achievable and whether the benefits of the Top Rated Seller program outweigh any additional costs that would have to be incurred.

6.  Anytime a survey participant chooses all the same response on a screen, such as choosing the “Extremely Poorly” column for every detailed question when asked “How well do you feel the current feedback on eBay accomplishes the following?”, an error message appears.  The error message states “There were problems with some of the data you entered in the survey.  You will find the questions with error below, please follow the instructions attached to each question… Please continue if you are sure you wnat to select the same value for each option.”

There was more to the survey than the above but I highlighted what I felt were the most relevant portions.
